How a 60-vehicle refrigerated carrier cut spoilage claims to zero

The challenge
A refrigerated carrier running 60 reefers was losing loads to temperature excursions no one caught until delivery. Every spoiled load meant a claim, a difficult customer call, and a margin hit.
Paper temperature logs were filled in at the end of runs — sometimes from memory — and proved nothing when a customer disputed the cold chain.
“We used to find out about a temperature problem when the customer refused the load. Now we find out while the driver can still do something about it.”
The solution
Every trailer got a wired temperature sensor reporting continuously in °F alongside GPS position.
Dispatch set alert thresholds per commodity. The moment a zone drifted out of range, the driver and the operations desk got an alert with time to act — a door left open, a unit cycling wrong — before the load was at risk.
Temperature history became a one-click report attached to every delivery.
“The temperature report goes with the invoice now. Disputes just stopped.”
